July 24, 2006
I am happy to announce that ‘Out of Control’ was just licensed over the weekend to a film short called ‘Bloodline’ a detective story plotline that is part of the national 48 Hour Film Project; an original film competition that asks filmmakers to produce a movie in just 48 hours! This event is tied with the 'Duke City Shootout' which has their own competition for screenplay writers, who’s scripts are chosen and then filmed in 7 days.
‘Bloodline’ will be showing tonight at 'The Guild' in Alb. Tickets are $7 at the door. Film starts at 7pm. (It is part of the Group A team)

Busy month!

June 16, 2006
It's been a busy month. Went to Santa Barbara June 1st for the Durango Songwriters Expo where I'm always amazed at all the talent collected in one place! Got to see and hear my favorite performers such as Alissa Moreno (she's a homegrown girl from Santa Fe who I am absolutely so proud of!), Mary Beth Maziarz (she has the most beautiful sultry silky smooth voice and she is so sweet and humble!) and
Matt Jones from Albuq. who I think is also very rockin! I also really like John Stoweres-great stuff! Got to meet new friends had breakfast with Tony Scalzo (he's very sweet!) from Fastball.
Then it was back to the Hyperactive Music Festival in Albuq. June 8th. We got to showcase for 45 minutes in front of record execs-it was a hoot! (yeah they took some paks-ya never know, ya know?) I got to hear some homegrown great, did I say great? I mean awesome talent! The Hollis Wake rocked!! I love those guys! It's rare that I get to see my favorite bands 'cause I'm usually booked at another venue at the same time their playing so this was a treat! Got to hear Sid Garcia fill in on bass for Coldsnap (he's awesome) then went next door to listen to the gogirls roster and got to hear Sarah Bettens of K's choice, she is really very cool - great lyrics....
Then attended a special viewing of Transamerica June 15th and got to chat with the writer/director Duncan Tucker. Do you believe this was his very first full length screenplay? Ohmygod! This man exudes talent! He's very sweet also.
Well back to work on the CD. Brian and I feel like we may now know what we're doing! Somewhat any way!
Please vote for us!

Hmm...I always seem to forget about this around this time of year, but another friend told me I've been listed in the 'Best Vocalist' category in the SF Reporter.
Coolness!
The band however didn't get listed but if you specify 'Other' and write in Cristen Grey and the Moving Dunes it will get counted! So if you have a few minutes to spare could you please vote for me and the band?
I would sincerely appreciate it!
Thanks so much!
Voting ends Friday June 9, 2006 at midnight.

I am happy to announce the addition of the Moving Dunes! What are the Moving Dunes? Well, here's one explanation...
Physicist solves desert mystery...December 2004
From Marco Polo onwards explorers have told stories about strange sounds they have heard in the desert. It is known that the sounds are produced by sand dunes when they avalanche, but the exact mechanism behind the phenomenon had remained a mystery. The sounds produced can be heard up to 10 kilometres away and resemble a drum or a low-flying jet. The sounds result from avalanches in which the grains drum on one another, exciting elastic waves on the dune surface, with the vibration of the sand bed tending to synchronise the collisions. In many ways the surface of the sand bed acts like the membrane in a loudspeaker...
Ok, really, they are the wonderful group of musicains that I am so privalaged to be working with!
Go to the Bio page to see who they are!

Is it spring yet? Sure hope so...brrr!
Well, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately and I've decided it's time to
start preparing for a new cd. So, Cristen Grey and the Moving Dunes will be taking a small hiatus after the April 16th gig to learn how to use newly purchased recording equipment and to work on some more material!!
Unless of course, there's a show or two that we absolutely have to do in-between!!
So time to put my producer/engineer/songwriter hat on!!
Don't know when it will be finished exactly, 'cause these things take lots of timebut I'll keep everyone posted.

LOCAL INDIE ROCK ARTIST CRISTEN GREY AND THE MOVING DUNES HELP UNICEF BRING HOPE TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN ASIAN TSUNAMI DISASTER.
Santa Fe, NM - To aid the millions of children and their families that have been affected by the recent earthquake and resulting tsunamis in South Asia and Eastern Africa, CRISTEN GREY AND THE MOVING DUNES are making an impact in supporting UNICEF's efforts to deliver relief and reconstruction assistance to all the affected countries by providing a benefit performance in co-sponsorship with SLEEPING DOG TAVERN. All proceeds from featured drink specials, including patron donations, will be given to UNICEF.
The goal is to raise as much money as we can. Hopefully this contribution will positively impact the lives of the effected children and families in the region and will perhaps inspire other local artists/musicians to contribute a part of their craft in a fundraising capacity, said Cristen Grey.
UNICEF estimates that at least one-third of the dead are children, many have lost one or both parents. Homes, schools and health centers have been destroyed. UNICEF is working hard to provide safe drinking water and set up sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of diseases like cholera and diarrhea. Vaccines, vitamins and high protein biscuits help protect poor children already at risk from malnutrition and infectious diseases from epidemics of disease, hunger and respiratory infections. Construction of temporary classrooms and shelters help children begin the healing process by bringing some semblance to a normal life.
About UNICEF: Founded in 1946, UNICEF helps save, protect and improve the lives of children around the world through immunization, education, health care, nutrition, clean water, and sanitation. UNICEF is non-partisan and its cooperation is free of discrimination. In everything it does, the most disadvantaged children and the countries in greatest need have priority. To make a donation or learn more about UNICEF please call 1-800-4UNICEF or go to
www.unicefusa.org.
Please show your support! If you can make the gig to pledge in person cool! If not, please visit the website or call the number above to make a donation. Thanks!
Peace, Love, Rock & Roll...
Happy New Year!!!!

Sitting here by the fire with my dogs I'm reminded of simple pleasures...the ones I tend to forget. Staring out my window at this winter scenery I see not only the glistening of the snow but the shimmer of possibility. Its dusk right now, my favorite time. Contented I close my eyes, breath in the impending twilight. Even as a child I instinctively knew what this transition meant. The in-between time, where all is suspended-where anything is possible. As if you could look thru the veil of time and limitation at the inspiration and hope that is patiently pending.
