2008 Hyperactive Festival - August 14, 2008

We have been selected to participate at this year’s Hyperactive Festival. Me and Brian will be performing this particular gig as a duet-so it should be nice and cozy. So, come have a late night snack while we croon at you!

Saturday Aug. 23rd
9-10pm
One Up Restaurant & Lounge
301 Central Ave NE
Albuquerque NM 87102
(505) 242-1966

Featured on Ear to the Ground - August 14, 2008

Interestingly enough I said we wouldn’t be gigging at all while we were recording – I guess I should know better, yes it hasn’t been very frequent but nonetheless, things have presented themselves while I was looking the other way. I’ve been tapped on the shoulder several times this summer by radio interview requests, a performance or two, an award show, and now two more polite taps on the shoulder - yes, excerpts from our previous radio interview on KUNM are going to become part of “Ear to the Ground” show on KUNM 89.9 on Saturday 8/16/08 at 7pm! Matthew Finch will be hosting the show, so if you missed the Freeform show with David Lescht last time, you have a second chance to at least catch some of the original interview!

KUNM 89.9 Interview - August 5, 2008

I realize this is short notice (time got away from me!) but I thought
I'd let you know we'll be interviewed on KUNM 89.9

David Lescht will have us on his Freeform show on Tue. Aug. 5th at 2pm!

Thanks for listening!

Songwriters Series - August 5, 2008

The monthly Albuquerque Songwriter Series returns to Slate Street Café in their fabulous Wine Loft on August 7. The session runs 7 - 9 PM and admission is free. Slate Street Café is located at 515 Slate NW Albuquerque, NM (one block north of Lomas between 5th and 6th) 505-243-2210 .

songwriters JOHNNY BURNS, CRISTEN GREY and COLE MITCHELL.
JOHNNY BURNS:
Son of Country Music Hall of Famer JETHRO BURNS and nephew of musical legend CHET ATKINS, JOHNNY BURNS is a chip off of a very impressive block. A long time member of the Chicago Folk/Rock/Americana scene,
Johnny rose through the ranks as vocalist/guitarist with the late STEVE GOODMAN (City of New Orleans) and founder and leader of JOHN
PRINE'S recording and touring band...

CRISTEN GREY:
Veteran New Mexico songwriter CRISTEN GREY's compositions are at home
whether presented in full band glory or stripped down solo acoustic.
Christen is atwo-time New Mexico Music Award Winner, most recently in 2008 for Best Musical Productions Rock Adult-Contemporary for the song "So Much Better". She was also nominated in 2007 in two categories (Best Song and Rock Adult-Contemporary) winning in the later for the

Ex-frontman for New Mexico's own legendary roadhouse band THE SADDLESORES and internationally critically acclaimed songwriter (his
album Invictus was named a Best of 2007 record by Dutch Roots Radio, among other accolades), COLE MITCHELL's "songs sweat bullets of genuine American tears laced with grit and asphalt. Filled with road weary tales of whiskey-soaked nights, deals gone bad, clocking time in
a slaughterhouse and "breathing fire and drinking gasoline". (Local
iQ).

The goal of The Albuquerque Songwriter Series is to showcase songwriters from all genres of music by presenting an evening of exploring song craft in an intimate setting. Each month the featured
songwriters join each other on stage with host Rob Martinez, Jr. to take turns playing original songs, talk about their origins, how they
came to write them, their influences and challenges. Songs range from completed pieces to works in progress.
Mr. Martinez is a songwriter and musician with deep local ties. As well as performing solo and with local outfit THE DADDY Os, he is a member of New Mexico's legendary traditional band LOS REYES DE
ALBUQUERQUE. Mr. Martinez is also a member of the Mayor's Albuquerque Music Advisory Board (AMAB). James de Champlon, also a member of the AMAB and a part of the City's Cultural Services Department coordinates
the monthly series with City Music Liaison Tom Frouge.
"This series is not about performance, nor is it about perfect voices or playing." says Mr. Frouge. "It is about the art of song craft, and
is not an open mic presentation. The stripped down setting, whether
the songs are rock, rap, jazz, classical, folk, world, Latin or
country, will showcase the compositions presented as they were written, on a single instrument. It will allow the Albuquerque songwriting community the opportunity to display their wares to other
songwriters perhaps learn from one another and, hopefully help nourish that part of the music business in Albuquerque. It will also allow the community at large to get to know these artists through their songs."
Please note: the Songwriter Series is not an open mic session. or more information on the series and the possibility of participation

Development Department, Mayor's Office at 505-771-3166 or

Documentary - July 16, 2008

Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center and New Mexico Music Commission Shooting Music Documentary
The Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center and New Mexico Music Commission Shooting Music Documentary
When:
Wed. July 16th
12:15 PM 4:00 PM
Where:
Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention and Youth Services Center
5100 Second Street NW
Albuquerque, New Mexico

On Wednesday, July 16th, the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention and Youth Services Center and New Mexico Music Commission are working together to produce a music video/documentary. Three bands will be performing live for juveniles who are currently detained at the facility or are part of the Juvenile Detention Center alternative to detention programs. After each band performs, the kids will have a chance to ask band members questions about music, including performing, how they got started, and any other music related questions.

"The hope is to get these youth involved in something positive. In the past, we've taken surveys at the facility, and many of the youth who are in the juvenile justice system said they were very interested in music, but didn't know how to get started" said Tom Swisstack, Director of the Detention Center. We hope this sparks something in them to take a different path -- a positive one."

Nancy Laflin, Director of the New Mexico Music Commission will produce the documentary. She currently produces a music television show with New Mexico musicians that just received a national Telly award for content and production.

The bands participating are La Chat Lunatique, Cristen Grey and the Moving Dunes and Of God and Science.
She will work with You and Me Productions, Production Outfitters and students from the New Mexico State University Grants Campus Media Program.

May 19, 2007
Well, all I can say is 'wow'. The Hyperactive Festival was pretty cool. We got to play under the Go Girls tent at the District Bar & Grill and I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with these incredible musicians-Justin Bransford, Joel Fadness and of course my right hand man Brian Widger. These guys are all awesome. For a moment though I thought it was going to rain on my head! But alas, it didn't! It was perfect! It was so great to see every single one of you! Thanks so very much for your support!

Hyperactive Music Festival! - April 5, 2007

Yup! We've been selected to showcase! Downtown Albuquerque will be transformed into a mini music mecca by those zany crazy Hyperactive Magazine people who brought you the Hyperactive Festival last year!
You'll be rubbing elbows with mighty music execs; they may look like your sister in-law, or your next door neighbor's step dad...but don't let that fool you! They have the power to leap tall buildings
chasing the next big thing in Music Row, NY or LA, they can use their
super vision and super hearing power to spot the next Gwen Stefani or
they can move volumes of indie product like Ani's CD's with the sheer
might of their dazzling distributor pens.

You gotta come! We'll be sneak previewing material from the upcoming CD 'Cristen Grey
and the Moving Dunes'!
Go to the calander link to get all the details!
See ya there!

I am happy to announce that ‘Out of Control’ was just licensed over the weekend to a film short called ‘Bloodline’ a detective story plotline that is part of the national 48 Hour Film Project; an original film competition that asks filmmakers to produce a movie in just 48 hours! This event is tied with the 'Duke City Shootout' which has their own competition for screenplay writers, who’s scripts are chosen and then filmed in 7 days.
‘Bloodline’ will be showing tonight at 'The Guild' in Alb. Tickets are $7 at the door. Film starts at 7pm. (It is part of the Group A team)

It's been a blast to be a part of this process! I won't find out until you find out, if you attend tonight how much of the tune is played. It could be 3 sec. or 4 min. I won't know until I see the movie! Ha this is lotsa fun!

Busy month! - June 16, 2006

It's been a busy month. Went to Santa Barbara June 1st for the Durango Songwriters Expo where I'm always amazed at all the talent collected in one place! Got to see and hear my favorite performers such as Alissa Moreno (she's a homegrown girl from Santa Fe who I am absolutely so proud of!), Mary Beth Maziarz (she has the most beautiful sultry silky smooth voice and she is so sweet and humble!) and
Matt Jones from Albuq. who I think is also very rockin! I also really like John Stoweres-great stuff! Got to meet new friends had breakfast with Tony Scalzo (he's very sweet!) from Fastball.

Then it was back to the Hyperactive Music Festival in Albuq. June 8th. We got to showcase for 45 minutes in front of record execs-it was a hoot! (yeah they took some paks-ya never know, ya know?) I got to hear some homegrown great, did I say great? I mean awesome talent! The Hollis Wake rocked!! I love those guys! It's rare that I get to see my favorite bands 'cause I'm usually booked at another venue at the same time their playing so this was a treat! Got to hear Sid Garcia fill in on bass for Coldsnap (he's awesome) then went next door to listen to the gogirls roster and got to hear Sarah Bettens of K's choice, she is really very cool - great lyrics....

Then attended a special viewing of Transamerica June 15th and got to chat with the writer/director Duncan Tucker. Do you believe this was his very first full length screenplay? Ohmygod! This man exudes talent! He's very sweet also.
Well back to work on the CD. Brian and I feel like we may now know what we're doing! Somewhat any way!
